Nova Rio Housing: An innovative and daring residential project, designed by architect António Paulo Marques, located in the heart of Porto. Characterized by two distinct volumes that create architectural tension and an innovative spatial concept, the building is distinguished by openings on all facades, guaranteeing abundant natural light and a breathtaking panoramic view of the city.
Located next to the Circunvalação, on the northern edge of the city of Porto, this private initiative residential project is called Nova Rio Housing. The land on which it stands has a trapezoidal configuration and overlooks Rua Nova do Rio. The building's central position in the ground allowed openings to be created on all its facades. Using the alignments existing nearby, two volumes have been proposed which establish a relationship of great closeness and tension between them. The vertical communications and distribution spaces are located in the centre, in the interstice formed by the two volumes. Access to the building converges towards its centre, a path accentuated by the proximity and tension between the volumes. The program includes two T0 apartments and fourteen T1 apartments, distributed over four floors. A basement floor has been dedicated to parking. From the outside, the facades of the building are treated in a monochromatic light gray tone, which prevails over all the construction elements. The windows follow a random and dynamic composition that sometimes breaks the corners of the volumes.
