The Nautical Sports Development Promotion Center, designed by Rómulo Neto Arquitetos, is an example of the transformation of an abandoned primary school into an innovative and modern sports center for water sports. The project required a creative approach and a low budget, but resulted in high quality and functional spaces. The architecture was designed to recall the atmosphere of the sea, with aluminum plates decorated with marine motifs.

The Nautical Sports Development Promotion Center, designed by Rómulo Neto Arquitetos, represents an extraordinary transformation of an abandoned primary school into a modern training center for water sports. This project, developed in response to an invitation from the Câmara Municipal of Vagos, was carried out on a low budget, demonstrating the creativity and skill of the architects involved.

The primary school, common throughout the country during the 1941th century, was built between 1969 and XNUMX, during the period of the "Estado Novo". However, thanks to the intervention of the design team, it has undergone a complete transformation, becoming a place dedicated to training and promoting water sports. The center aims to provide high quality, functional spaces to support local athletes and further develop activities related to water sports.

One of the distinctive features of this refurbishment was the preservation of the solid pine wood floor of the old classrooms. This choice not only retained a historic element of the building but also added warmth and character to the interior spaces. However, to bring a marine feel to the center, aluminum plates have been created with marine motifs precisely cut through the CNC process. These decorative panels have been strategically placed, between the foyer and living room, as well as around the bar counter, helping to create an immersive and captivating experience for those visiting the centre.

A particular challenge was fitting eight bunk beds into a space of just 33 square metres. However, thanks to a careful wooden design, the beds have been developed to ensure privacy, aesthetics and functionality. This intelligent solution has made it possible to optimize the available space without sacrificing the comfort of the guests.

The Nautical Sports Development Promotion Center represents the synthesis of a series of small-scale spaces, including a gym, a training room, a dining room, a bar, changing rooms and a medical support. These environments aim to stimulate and support local water sports, using the pre-existing infrastructure. Thanks to this project, the community of Vagos will be able to benefit from a state-of-the-art center that promotes physical activity, health and sports tourism.
