The Municipality of Cuneo – Management Body of the Gesso and Stura River Park – participated in the Interreg VA Italy-France Cross-Border Territorial Cooperation Program ALCOTRA 2014-2020, Integrated Territorial Plan ALPIMED, Project n. 5201 FURNITURE

In particular, the MOBIL project has set itself the objective of identifying and promoting sustainable mobility actions within the reference area, aimed at promoting tourism and improving the quality of life of residents.

Among the actions envisaged within the project, the sub-activity "Creation of intermodal mini-centres at railway line stations" involved the construction of a closed and covered cycle parking (Velostazione) where bicycles and e-bikes could be stored as well as some workstations for recharging electric bicycles at the Cuneo railway station.

The identified site of the Cuneo railway station was such as to favor the rail/road intermodality with cycle mobility.

The cycle parking project it develops from a simple functional scheme based on the clarity of the bicycle delivery and collection routes, its configuration is simple and linear, created with a large corridor on one side and the bicycle stands on the other.

The Velostazione is an all-metal rectangular-based structure made with steel portals, panels and gratings.

The ridge, the characteristic element, is exactly the diagonal of the base rectangle.

The infill elements, with two different lines, and the gratings form characteristic trapezoidal shapes which are also taken up in the geometries of the reinforced concrete seats and the flowerbed in the surrounding square.

The main body of the Velostazione is made up of a modular metal structure, a choice that has made it possible to contain the costs of the building, speed up its execution and at the same time achieve significant and concrete economic and environmental sustainability.

The idea was born from the need to create a building created almost entirely in the workshop and assembled on site, in order to reduce construction site times for the building itself.

Not having to guarantee airtightness, acoustics and thermal insulation, we opted for a lightweight envelope capable of guaranteeing protection from bad weather and, at the same time, effectively defining the architectural character of the building.

A corten steel “sign” was created to separate the existing parking area from the pedestrian area around the building with the individual letters that make up the word VELOSTAZION E. The letters, drilled at the top, also act as bicycle racks .

In addition, a further covered area has been positioned in the square for the bicycle stall.
