João Nuno Macedo designed the Santa Cruz building, characterized by clean and sober lines, which blends harmoniously into the urban context. The building, developed for the university market, offers apartments with a contemporary and vibrant design, creating a space that welcomes those starting a new academic or professional phase.

In the context of a street characterized by a cold, gray and inadequate appearance in its constructions, with images out of context and surprising facades, there were initially two single-storey houses. The buildings varied from typical historical constructions to others more contemporary or oriented towards this intention. The goal was to simplify with clean, understated lines, creating something that blends without emphasis into its context, something light that can adapt to the many possible futures that the street might face.

The building appears as a volume at street level, suspended over the internal courtyard above the basement, which houses the parking lot. Basically, it is a suspended volume that does not interfere with the surrounding buildings.

The project was developed with a university market target, and therefore the interior of the building was conceived according to this concept, with apartments characterized by a simple distribution of floors and more avant-garde elements working in perfect harmony.

Through the use of colour, the intention was to create a sense of liveliness that does not impose restrictions, but makes the space fluid with respect to the different contexts that this type of building could encounter. It was deemed imperative to give character to this internal space, so that it could be experienced by someone, someone starting a new academic or professional life or simply passing through temporarily. This space should be for them a place that allows them to feel at home, their momentary refuge.
