A shop of an old laundry, long and narrow between two walls, rarely is the first place to which you might think when looking for a house to live.
While the Architect of Barcelona Carles Enrich saw great potential to convert the space into a modern house comfortable for a family with a small child.
Due to the significant size limitations, the strategy centered around an open courtyard creating a free-plan design. Being the smallest overall space, he created a large linear open room to allow inside to breathe, reflecting natural light deep into the back of the house and allowing good air circulation throughout the house - thus avoiding an environment gloomy.
The existing masonry stone walls, the beams with bricks and wood have been recovered. In the courtyard, a pergola of thin steel beams and reeds softens the direct sunlight. Along the opposite side of the courtyard is an old warehouse used to be either a more private work area or a guest bedroom.
