Koi Restaurant: A culinary oasis fusing oriental design and gastronomic delight. The permeable architecture creates a unique environment, with an internal garden and carp-shaped acoustic panels. Noble materials ensure durability without compromising comfort.
Located within a hotel in Ponta Delgada, the Koi Restaurant opened in 2004 and was in need of a makeover despite its predominant connection to the hotel's central courtyard. The latter is characterized by a garden strongly inspired by the Orient and by a body of water populated by carp [KOI]. The strong link between this space and the garden was the guiding idea of the project, bringing the garden into the restaurant and creating total permeability between the internal and external spaces, emphasizing the large and bright environment.
The restaurant looks like an internal garden, an integral part of the exterior, reflecting the same symbolism and balance, with the presence of greenery extending across the ceilings. This is in line with various artificial lightings that create scenic effects and acoustic panels which, in addition to their main function, take on the shape of carp: a symbol of prosperity, longevity and fertility.
Despite the general look of the environment, several refreshment areas have been defined featuring traditional tables and cozy lounge spaces, in order to offer different options for hosting guests depending on the time of day.
The choice of materials is based on their nobility and resistance, while ensuring easy maintenance without compromising comfort.
The design of the Koi Restaurant, created by the architecture studio box: arquitectos, has been able to capture the essence of the oriental courtyard of the hotel, bringing its charm inside the restaurant. The idea of permeability between internal and external spaces creates a unique atmosphere, allowing guests to immerse themselves in the harmony of the surrounding garden.
