Can you live small but have everything you need? Can you have maximum usable space with minimal surface area? We were asked to create a versatile and innovative 28 square meter home. Overpopulation, constant decrease in living space in cities, the pandemic. What is the next phase for urban living?
Urban Life Concept
Onar is a mini-house that meets our rapidly changing needs in today's world, reinventing freedom in familiarity. A house that makes up for what it lacks in terms of size with technological innovation. How sweet can a sweet nest be? This project celebrates the idea of living on a small scale, but with ingenuity.
The concept of home in the “new normal”
This is the home for the new normal; you assemble it as a package and connect it wherever you are. Designed for those who are always on the move and call the world their home. They have little interest in accumulating objects, they prefer to accumulate experiences. Their treasure is in the cloud, not in the closet. They appreciate the proximity to urban centers but also like to escape to nature every now and then. They are connected to the community but also seek privacy. Light, modular and "smart", this project redefines the concept of "home". Feel at home but don't settle. Inhabit the world.
Logic of the structure
Easily assembled and disassembled, this house is designed to be mobile and adaptable. It will appeal to those who appreciate proximity to urban centers, but also like to escape to nature every now and then. Light, modular and smart, Onar challenges the definition of home. The two-level structure is held together by a modular vertical core, which connects the living spaces and serves functional purposes; electrical and plumbing elements (lighting, sockets, kitchen and bathroom sink, toilet, shower installation) and a double bed are housed in there. Much more than a functional volume, this core becomes an essential expansion for every room that opens up to optimize the use of space. Modules for the core, slabs, semi-permanent pillar foundation are flat packed in a volume of 2,3 m3.
Technological innovation
Once assembled, the modules are wrapped in a lightweight, prefabricated, smart fabric-based enclosure with minimal installation work required on the construction site. The multi-layer fabric is breathable with high air permeability, thermal insulation and acoustic properties for a noise-free interior; it filters the air, drains rainwater for domestic purposes and detects changes in humidity levels. It can be cleaned, folded and reused.
Customization
The design adapts to the living program of its inhabitants; the rooms are not labeled, but flexibly adapt to preferences for a larger bathroom versus a kitchen and vice versa. The floor reflects the selected living scenario.
