The German pavilion at Expo Milano 2015 is an open and public structure entitled “Fields of Ideas”.
Designed by a team of creative studios, including Schmidhuber, the temporary building seeks to reflect the country's commitment to environmental awareness and food awareness.
A gently sloping ramp leads to a bridge that wraps around the building. The surfaces are composed of various shades of wood. On the southwest corner adjacent to the structure, the "German square" offers a larger meeting place that is also suitable for shows and events. The steps are integrated with the shape of the ramp, while on the ground floor of the building there is a restaurant that can accommodate 350 people.
The project for the exhibition pavilion, led by milla & Partner , includes interactive presentations that introduce Germany's ideas and insights for ecologically conscious food and natural resource management. Mobile devices, called “seed tables”, allow visitors to explore, discover and collect content presented throughout the building. The various paths that represent the land, water, climate, biodiversity are mixed to create different spatial experiences. In addition, the property offers three different ways of eating: a freely accessible area for tasting, a fine dining restaurant, and a place for culinary reflection of 'gemütlichkeit' - a German word that describes a space or state of warmth and friendliness.
