Fieldhouse by MoDusArchitects, a sports and social architecture in South Tyrol. A sustainable building that unites the local community and offers spaces for sport and leisure.

In the heart of the enchanting South Tyrolean landscape, the MoDusArchitects architecture studio has created an extraordinary architectural work, Fieldhouse, which combines sport, leisure and a deep sense of community. Located in Laghetti, in the municipality of Egna, Bolzano, on the banks of the Adige river, this building fits harmoniously at the foot of the Monte Corno Natural Park, creating a new point of reference in the local panorama.

The idea behind the project was to transform an old building, which housed changing rooms and sports associations, into a modern and energy efficient structure. MoDusArchitects has chosen to reuse the existing photovoltaic system, demonstrating a tangible commitment to environmental sustainability.

Fieldhouse's architecture fits perfectly into its surroundings. The structure, with a low profile that extends laterally, transforms from a retaining wall to a continuous linear roof, ultimately becoming a viewing platform that offers breathtaking views during sporting events and transforms into an ideal place for meetings and social activities . Every aspect of the design, from size to edges and orientation, has been carefully planned to adapt to the different sporting activities it hosts.

Matteo Scagnol, co-founder of MoDusArchitects, underlines that outdoor sports fields are real landscapes built with precision, where every detail is designed to improve the athletes' experience.

Fieldhouse is also an element of connection within the local community, integrating perfectly with the different structures and settlements present in South Tyrol. Strategically positioned between the mountain and the valley, the project features a regular and extensive plan, but also a geometric facade that integrates with the surrounding vertical landscape. The two-storey structure, with a partially underground floor and an above-ground floor with a large terrace, is made of reinforced concrete with brick partitions, creating a uniform appearance punctuated by trapezoidal pillars.

The Fieldhouse project is not only a venue for sport, but also a community space. Sandy Attia, co-founder of MoDusArchitects, explains that the goal was to create an accessible and visible building, capable of hosting a wide range of functional and social activities. The longitudinal orientation of the building guides visitors through open and inspiring spaces.

The structure also hosts a roofing system with photovoltaic modules, capable of covering 50% of energy needs with renewable sources, thus earning CasaClima A certification.

Inside, on the first floor, there are offices, a meeting room, a café space with kitchen and a terrace for parties and public meetings. The new changing rooms have been positioned on the ground floor, with direct access to the football field and the main building.

Furthermore, Fieldhouse hosts the headquarters of the Tiroler Schützen, an association linked to local traditions, demonstrating how this building truly serves the entire community.

In conclusion, the Fieldhouse project by MoDusArchitects represents an extraordinary example of architecture dedicated to sport and the local community. This building is not just a sports facility, but a meeting point that unites people, promoting well-being and cohesion in the South Tyrolean community. Its attention to sustainability and energy efficiency makes it a virtuous example for future architectural works in the region.
