The magical transformation of an apartment designed by STUDIOTAMAT in the Parioli district. An explosion of color and design blends the interior with the spacious garden terrace, creating a unique and welcoming environment.

In the prestigious Parioli district in Rome, the STUDIOTAMAT architecture studio has created a magical alchemy of color and design inside a 160 square meter apartment. Located on the top floor of a 30s building overlooking Villa Ada, this unique space has been transformed into a convivial, bright place open to the outside, thanks to a spacious 100 square meter garden terrace.

The apartment, with a "C"-shaped layout in which the long side is in direct contact with the external space, originally had a fragmented internal subdivision, with numerous small rooms arranged along a long corridor.

"In agreement with the owners, who wanted a home suitable for every season, with open and flexible spaces to live in on an ongoing basis, we demolished everything that was possible and rebuilt only the essentials"explains Matteo Soddu, co-founder of the studio.

The result is a fluid environment, designed to create a modern distribution scheme that leaves room for innovative solutions to modulate the degree of privacy and increase the possibilities of using the different rooms. This is made possible through the use of soft drapes and custom designed sliding panels.

The design approach is centered on the visual permeability between spaces, the direct link between interiors and exteriors and the bold use of colour, which gave the project its name: “Cromatica”. The area near the entrance houses the master bedroom, with private bathroom divided into multiple spaces, characterized by neutral tones on the walls such as the “Feminique” and the “Castoro” by Wilson and Morris. The simple and linear furnishings help to create a serene and relaxing atmosphere.

In the area behind the "Chemise Bed" by Piero Lissoni for Living Divani, a wall of off-white majolica tiles designed by Chiara Andreatti for Bottega Nove stands out, while the "Falkland" lamps by Bruno Munari for Artemide descend to the sides. A bespoke wardrobe, made of oak, breaks up the hexagonal design of the terracotta floor, which extends throughout the apartment. The particular conformation in oxidized lands gives the floor a lived-in and nuanced look.

The guest bedroom features a bright blue alcove (Edo Blue by Emente), furnished with the “Nun desk” lamp by Gae Aulenti for Guzzini and an imaginative bedspread from the “Bludiprussia” factory, camouflaged by soft plum-colored curtains recall the color of the surrounding walls. The shutters have been eliminated to allow natural light to enter freely. This space offers privileged access to a corner of the terrace, where a comfortable built-in sofa, embellished with cushions, allows you to enjoy the shade of the pine trees.

The sleeping area can be shielded if necessary thanks to two sliding panels covered with the "Sisal" wallpaper by Nobilis. An airy gallery of about 8 meters, communicates directly with the outside through two large French windows and is conceived as a sort of internal greenhouse that houses various species of plants, a great passion of the owner. Along one side runs a custom-made piece of furniture with the back covered with Nobilis “Arcipelago” wallpaper with a bamboo canes design. Vibia's “Tempo” wall lamps outline the space and offer a diffused light.

A service bathroom, covered with handmade terracotta rhombuses in white body, interspersed with different species of marble such as the "Verde Guatemala", the "Emperador Brown" and the "Red, yellow and walnut travertine of Palazzo Morelli", it is hidden behind a flush door. At the end of the gallery, which acts as a proscenium, the large living room opens up, with a back wall in a vibrant bright red color (Red Wood by Wilson and Morris) that enlivens the space. The change of flooring delimits the different areas of the living room: the walnut parquet underlines the more convivial central part, dominated by a fireplace completely covered in zellige of the same shade as the wall. In front of the fireplace are the comfortable “Dumas” sofa by Living Divani, the “Gala” armchair by Franco Albini for Bonacina and the “Refolo” coffee table by Charlotte Perriand for Cassina. Just beyond is the dining area, with the “Notes” round table by Living Divani and the “Superleggera” chairs by Gio Ponti for Cassina.

On the back wall, the large “Sherazade” sliding glass door by Piero Lissoni for Glas Italia delimits the spacious kitchen, characterized by a central steel island and a linear hob with opaline glass wall units. A door with porthole and saloon opening, custom designed, allows access to the service area and to the secondary entrance.

On the side of the living room, an equipped wall by De Padova houses a more intimate area, identified by the terracotta floor, which houses the owner's study. Furnished with the “Bambi” table by Nendo and the “Juli” armchair by Werner Aisslinger, both for Cappellini, it overlooks a more private part of the terrace, where a custom-designed oak bench completes the space.

On the opposite side of the living room, an XNUMXth century Spanish larch piece of furniture, crowned by a painting depicting Guttuso's famous still lifes with watermelons, anticipates the external terrace. The amber color of the walls and the Umbrian terracotta floor by Fedeli are illuminated by the “Dioscuri” lamps by Artemide, which give the terrace an almost metaphysical atmosphere, in contrast with the interiors, where the mixture of colors transmits a decisive energy to the spaces. This outdoor space becomes a natural extension of the living room, curated in collaboration with the garden designer Antonio Basso (known for his works for Fendi and Etro), who has skilfully combined different plant species to create an elegant and out of the ordinary setting , with strawberry trees, mastic trees and junipers, with the condominium pines in the background.

The outdoor space is divided into different areas, from the relaxation area to the one with a large dining table, covered by a custom-designed iron structure with bamboo canes. The furnishings, including chairs and table from the “Officina” series by the Bouroullec brothers and the “Milà” armchairs by Jaime Hayòn, are all from the Magis collection.

The STUDIOTAMAT architectural studio has created an elegant and colorful renovation, in which unusual and highly functional solutions blend with bold color choices, always maintaining attention to the synergy between space and light. This colorful Eden becomes a joyful escape from the frenzy of the city.
