The A chair has established itself for its minimal aesthetic, its solidity and its great lightness. On board the liner Normandie in 1935, the Tolix chair also furnished the spaces of the Exposition Internationale des Arts et Techniques in 1937. It is also found on many café terraces, before entering the private sphere of the 50s. The “A” chair marks a significant stage in the history of design. Its designer, Xavier Pauchard, used stamped sheet metal and zinc for the first time in the production of mass-produced furniture. The Tolix chair becomes the first French industrial chair.
