Description

Icon of industrial design for almost a century, the A56 armchair by Tolix has crossed epochs and styles to become a classic inscribed in the collective memory, a "living heritage" that illustrates the French art of living ... Embodiment of the modern style of the 30s- 50, the A56 armchair stood out for its solidity and great lightness. Stackable, it perfectly meets the needs of space rationalization. Its refined aesthetics and its great functionality presented it to a prestigious and successful career: on board the Normandie liner in 1935, the Tolix armchair also populates the spaces of the Exposition Internationale des Arts et Techniques in 1937 and numerous café terraces before entering in the private sphere of the 50s. Symbolic and democratic, the Tolix metal armchair marks a significant stage in the history of design. All the credit goes to its designer Xavier Pauchard who used stamped sheet metal and zinc for the first time to produce mass-produced furniture. Tolix seats become the first French industrial seats. Today, the company has acquired high-performance digital machines that accompany many manual operations and tooling inherited from history. Each armchair that comes out of the atelier is unique and the Tolix signature is engraved in the metal. It is with genuine recognition that Tolix received in 2006 the label of “Company of the living heritage” conferred by the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Industry. Made of raw steel sheet with bright transparent paint, this A56 armchair is not galvanized and cannot be used outdoors. For indoor / outdoor use, it is necessary to favor the galvanized model with transparent paint. In this version with clear varnish, the welding points are deliberately visible to communicate an artisan idea and highlight the raw aesthetic of the product. Indoor only - Stackable
