Marcel Wanders

He is a professional who is shaping the design industry and promoting a more romantic and humanistic thinking, while respecting the past and the diversity of cultures.

Rooted in a humanistic perspective, Marcel Wanders brings humanity back to the technocratic world of design, inaugurating what he calls “the contemporary Renaissance of humanism”, creating a reality in which the designer, craftsman and user feel welcomed and embraced. With each new project, Wanders challenges the dogma of design, preferring to focus instead on the romantic, surreal and archetypal aspect, rather than technocratic. Marcel Wanders' work excites, provokes and polarizes, but never fails to surprise, celebrate and entertain. Considered by many to be an anomaly in the world of design, its mission is to create a loving and passionate environment.

Marcel Wanders opened his studio in 1996 in Amsterdam and since 2006 has been located in the beating heart of the Jordaan district. This deeply respectful link with the city is celebrated with the establishment of the Westerhuis (2006), a building for the creative industries, the publication of Amsterdam Creative Capital (2009), the opening of Andaz Prinsengracht Amsterdam (2012) and the creation of “Rijks, Masters of the Golden Age” (2016), a groundbreaking tribute to 17th century Dutch masterpieces.
