Habits Design Studio, multidisciplinary reality of design and innovation during the days of the Milan Fuorisalone 6 12-June, presents Superstudio More, in Via Tortona 27, a circular interaction design installation that investigates the relationship between movement, light and sound. It is a physical and digital interaction between the human body and light made spectacular by the art of the dance company Kataklò Athletic Dance Theater.

"Through this design research we stage some aspects of the most advanced knowledge that we develop within the studio. The designers who wrote the history of Italian design studied manufacturing processes, experimented with tubes and sheets, explored injection molding. They made wonderful wooden prototypes to understand the shape, the dimensions, the ergonomics. Alongside these practices, we study today the product experience. We learn to manage that digital layer that surrounds the product and connects it with those who use it", They declare Innocenzo Rifino and Diego Rossi, founders of Habits Design Studio.

In the ancient and ritual geometry of the circle, the moving body produces luminous and sound signs that return a multisensory experience. Habits' installation is inspired by the works of land art, drawing on the ancestral value of the circle as the boundary of a space. The dancers of Kataklò and the visitors of the Fuorisalone, dancing or moving near the ring, interacting with the sensors and sources, produce a scenography of light, color and sound that involves the senses.

"The fallout from thisexperimental work lead to the evolution of electronic products in which the interaction experience, the exchange of information between the product and the user are decisive. In the studio we create prototypes that we define as 'high fidelity' because they are very close to the reality of the digital and interactive experience that the user can have. By investigating dance, gesture, light, we build a humanistic relationship: a dialogue between people and the product. With the knowledge deriving from this model, we can hypothesize a future of emotionally reacting products in which light is distributed in form, changes over time and is context sensitive ", conclude Rifino and Rossi.

Technical details of the installation

Modular structure composed of 24 interconnected metal elements that form a 4m diameter ring, equipped with 5400 RGB LEDs arranged in a total of 40 meters in length. The system is managed by a software that connects a microprocessor and an infrared camera that detects movement inside the ring, processes images and lights, producing a luminous scenography of unique colors and sounds.
