ilVespaio organizes Amani Onlus the workshop Ideas from the slums to the School Tam Tam. The workshop will take place in Nairobi in Kenya and will allow participants to get to know life in Kenyan slums up close and design projects for this context. The course participants will leave for Nairobi with Amani volunteers and ilVespaio designers for ten days in February 2014, after a series of preparatory meetings in Milan in the spaces made available by Tam Tam. They will be hosted at the Kivuli Center, a reception center for street children, and will have the unique opportunity to discover an Africa without? Lters, immersing themselves in the reality of the slums and knowing firsthand those who live there.

They will be able to visit some slums of Nairobi, talk to people who live there, try to understand what daily problems they have to face due to extreme poverty and the total absence of infrastructure. The workshop participants will try to design useful objects in this context that can be manufactured with the means and materials available locally. The ideas that emerged during the trip and developed upon returning to Milan will be displayed in an exhibition during the Salone del Mobile. The trip will be entirely at the expense of the participants (around 850 euros for the flight and visa, 10 euros per day for room and board in Nairobi).

ilVespaio is a network of professionals who deal with eco-design and sustainability at 360 °. Planners, researchers, educators collaborate on projects on waste, critical consumption, and other environmental and social issues. ilVespaio analyzes company production waste or event waste, and studies solutions to transform them into
merchandising. It designs products, packaging and fittings using recycled or reused materials and applying ecodesign and design for all strategies. It organizes workshops, laboratories, educational exhibitions and competitions for ideas on environmental / social issues and communication projects.

Amani is a non-pro? t association that is committed to affirming the right of children and young people to have an identity, a protected home, food, education, health and the affection of an adult. Since 1995 we have established and supported shelters, educational, school and professional centers in Kenya, Zambia and Sudan. Since then, we have been offering opportunities and concrete alternatives every day to thousands of boys and girls forced to live on the streets in large cities, in rural areas and in war zones. Amani has a secular, apolitical and independent character. Non-governmental organization recognized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it has its registered office in Milan and local groups active in various Italian cities. In Italy Amani organizes cultural, information and in-depth initiatives and meetings. Every year we offer the opportunity to participate in meeting camps in Kenya and Zambia for organized groups, young volunteers and families who wish to get to know the African reality firsthand.

TAM TAM - An extreme school.

TAM TAM is a school of excellence and deals with visual activities. It's a FREE school. Its Director is Alessandro Guerriero. It was born from an idea of ​​Alessandro Mendini, Riccardo Dalisi, Alessandro Guerriero. His Masters are important and their intervention is a gift. The spaces are on loan, there is no structure, its places are many. Its main office is located in Milan at NABA. The workshops have variable duration and each Master independently decides the theme of his intervention. The time commitment of the Masters is at their discretion. The teachers are supported by groups of collaborators.

• WEDNESDAY 29 JANUARY 2014 at 18:00 FIRST MEETING with ilVespaio and Amani Onlus at the Ex Fornace area or la Naba. Presentation of the workshop, of Amani's projects in Africa, of the reality of Nairobi and of life in the slums.
• WEDNESDAY 5 FEBRUARY 2014 at 18:00 SECOND MEETING with ilVespaio at Naba. Examples of design / art projects in Africa, testimonials from designers and architects who worked in Africa and description of how the workshop will take place in Nairobi.
• WEDNESDAY 12 FEBRUARY 18:00 THIRD MEETING with ilVespaio and Amani at Naba. Travel preparation with Amani's volunteers.
• TEN DAY TRIP IN KENIA (approximately from Saturday 22 February to Sunday 2 March or from Saturday 1 March to Sunday 9 March) with accommodation at the Kivuli Center, managed by Amani. The trip will be entirely at the expense of the participants.
• WEDNESDAY 19 MARCH FOURTH MEETING with ilVespaio at Naba to put together the projects and ideas that emerged during the trip and organize the presentation event of the project.
• 8-13 APRIL EVENT TO PRESENT THE PROJECT during the week of the Salone del Mobile.
