Alternate Lifeforms JCP Universe, a system based on relationships between entities

Alternate Lifeforms JCP Universe, a system based on relationships between entities it has been modified: 2022-06-04 di Benedetto Fiori

With Alternate Lifeforms JCP Universe proposes a system in which the key are the relationships between the entities that intervene.

We value life - especially that of human beings - more than anything else. Nevertheless, we do not hesitate to take it away from other creatures, or we behave as if objects were endowed with life, even if they are inanimate.

Then, what exactly is life? How can it be defined? There is still no general consensus in the scientific or philosophical community on the exact definition to be given to the concept of life, and every day we discover new entities on our planet that could be considered alive.

Basically, all existing matter is an aggregate of very small particles, which come together to create infinite combinations: from a simple hydrogen atom to something as complex as a brain. Definitely, life is just a concept invented by man. In the world we perceive, environmental conditions determine the forms of life that evolve and inhabit a given space: everything that exists within such a system unknowingly forms the ecosystem itself, and its agents define the life within it.

The same happens in the JCP Universe, where the artifacts become real life forms, part of a system that creates relationships between their creators, their users and the environment itself. Living thus becomes an act of conscience between the space and the agents who inhabit it.

Life is more than what we take for granted: it can become what we make of it.

Coloniae

Coloniae is a series of artifacts that tell the relationship between man and plant. The objects in this series are conceived as dwellings of a colony, and as such are born with a predefined shape. However each structure is designed to interact with the plant it hosts, letting it overlap it, redefining its appearance. Over time, the plant will begin to interact with the object through roots and leaves, eventually colonizing it. In this way, Coloniae rethinks the vase (and other complementary artifacts) as content rather than containing, and plants as agents in the definition of a hybrid organism co-participated in human action.

Hariona vase

Hariona translates the soul of the plant into a physical presence. With its pointed but delicate edges, the object evokes the nature of the prickly pear, an exotic cactus that produces spiny but juicy and colorful fruits. The vase is made entirely of wood fibers and colored with natural pigments: the result is a nuanced purple with unpredictable nuances, capable of materializing the magic inherent in the cosmic soul of JCP Universe.

Materials: vase with thermoformed and rounded structure in wood fibers extracted manually from the dried plant of the prickly pear. Coloring carried out with natural pigment of col. Viola.

Dimensions (L x W x H): Ø 36cm / Ø 30cm (As these are natural elements, the dimensions may be different for each piece).

Harvat mirror

Harvat explores the idea of a basic geometric object, such as a disk, to which a physical interaction gives it its own identity and functionality. Inspired by chaos theory, the piece expresses how a small change in a complex system can have huge effects elsewhere.

The mirror has an irregular and three-dimensional shape, like a drape that orients and transforms the identity of the viewer.

Materials: three-dimensional irregular shaped silver mirror made with molten glass
printed.

Dimensions (L x W x H): Ø 120cm

Naginam

Line and sphere are the protagonists of Naginam lamps. In a frame of minimalist geometry and elementary materials, the two elements communicate with each other. Each composition is a still image of this dialogue, a fragment, a moment frozen in time: the lamp becomes a character in itself, and leaves room for reflection on the conversations we have every day, with others and with ourselves.

Nekomat

Nekomat is an artifact inspired by the concept of synchronicity, a term coined by Carl Jung to mean events that occur without causal relationship but appear to be significantly related. Is it true that there is no causality, or is the relationship simply too complex for our minds? If synchronicity had a body, what would it be like?

Nekomat is one of the possible visualizations of this concept, materialized in a three-dimensional frame that emphasizes the connection between two images.

Nekomat Frame - AE
