The lighting designer Rada Markovic has recently completed the lighting design project for a church transformed into a private home in Lucca.

It is a XNUMXth century deconsecrated church that architects Paola Sausa and Paolo Bertoncini Sabatini (Momus Architetti) have transformed into a home for the photographer Massimo Vitali.

Rada Markovic has developed a project that offers an optimal balance between lighting efficiency and cost-effective energy, using light sources with LED technology driven by an intelligent lighting control system.

In compliance with current regulations, the church space has not been divided, the house is essentially a large open space. The rooms for the bedrooms, the bathroom and the laundry area were obtained by building a free-standing wooden structure.

KITCHEN worktop

For the kitchen area was used a light source ultra flat (PAD - Design Carlotta de Bevilacqua and Paola Monaco di Arianello), an innovative and efficient lighting solution designed by Artemide. A 12 LED ceiling projector with two different beam angles, for perfect illumination of the kitchen worktop without creating glare.

Blue CEILING

The vaulted ceiling, kept in its original Blue color, was illuminated with LED strips (CREE LED Strip134W 4000K) mounted on the tie rods of the vaults, facing upwards. An extremely thin, flexible, powerful and easily customizable system, but at the same time sustainable.
(Total length rods 5.4mt. / Total 134W LED 24V + 12350lm 5.4mt. Aluminium support).

Metallic structure STAIRS

Also for the metallic structure of the scales we were used CREE LED Strip high performance, with focused light on the metal structure and the surface of the wall specification.

Studio (former SACRISTY)

In the former sacristy, study of Vitali's wife Annette Klein, the salient aspect is the difference in materials that create a contrast with the open space of the church, here the environment is dominated by exposed brick walls and dark wood of the ceiling.

Here the lighting has been designed to bring out the color of the brick, using 29W 3000K LED strips positioned inside the niches.
