The Italian design company wins one of the most important awards awarded by the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design for the table that challenges the force of gravity and for the material that revolutionizes the world of design.
The Bold Table and the innovative XGlass, both born from the cultural approach that LAKE focuses on innovation, they obtained the Good Design® Award 2018, respectively for the Furniture category and for the Building Materials category. The prestigious international recognition, now in its 68th edition and promoted by the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design in collaboration with the European Center for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies, annually awards the most innovative industrial projects and products and involves designers, architects , designers, studios and companies from all over the world.
Designed by Daniele Lago and presented on the occasion of the 2018 International Furniture Show, the Bold table seems to want to challenge gravity: the table is supported, in fact, by a single decentralized support capable of supporting the weight of the ultra-thin top. Thanks to extensive engineering studies that have tested the solidity of the structure, the table is extremely stable. The magic lies in the shadow, a black physical element that evades the presence of a base and gives stability together with the supporting leg. The absence of bulky legs allows you to eliminate any constraint and makes the table comfortable and versatile, suitable to accommodate more guests at the same time, amplifying the sense of conviviality and making sharing its strong point.
The revolutionary XGlass material is born from the research of finishes with which to interpret the contemporary interior. Thanks to the digital revolution, LAGO is the first company to present concretely in the design world an application that allows images to be transferred onto glass, reinterpreting the different materials, from marble to wood to metals. XGlass combines the qualities of a noble and precious material like glass with the emotions of many other materials. The high strength of the glass combined with the reduced thickness makes it possible to apply it to most of the LAGO products, such as kitchens, wall units, sideboards, tables, chest of drawers and bedside tables. Finally, the use of XGlass is an innovative strategy to reduce environmental impact and improve the social one in more cases.
«We are always happy when the tangible results of our cultural approach to innovation are recognized by important international bodies - says Daniele Lago, AD & Head of Design of LAGO SpA -. One of the most important challenges that design has in perspective is to make human and empathic the enormous potential that the technological revolution offers us and that we are experiencing every day. A look of curious children will continue to influence our work on the world of design to contribute incisively to a more sustainable future at all levels ».
