Whether it rains or is sunny, the stimulating atmosphere of Rio de Janeiro will animate the city of Milan from 12 to 17 April: for the eighth consecutive year, the Rio + Design exhibition will bring to the Lombard capital, on the occasion of the Salone Internazionale del Mobile, the best of the creative production of the fascinating Brazilian town.

Organized by the State Government of Rio de Janeiro, through the Secretary for Economic Development, the exhibition is sponsored by Sebrae-RJ e byApex-Brasil, with the support of the Italian-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Rio de Janeiro.

The innovative spirit of the current Rio de Janeiro design landscape will be expressed, in the exuberant Zona Tortona, through the creations of 15 representatives of the sector. More than 30 products make up the exhibition: from furniture to kitchen items, from lights to jewels.

“The Salone del Mobile is an important showcase for the launch of the innovative creations of the Rio de Janeiro designers. And over the years we have consolidated a calendar of meetings with entrepreneurs and partners during Rio + Design, always aiming for a fruitful exchange at an international level and new business opportunities ", explains the Undersecretary for Economic Development of the State of Rio de Janeiro, Dulce Ângela Procópio.

Elected Designer of the Year at Maison & Objet Americas 2015, Zanini de Zanine will present, among other products, the “Nanda” armchair - a tribute to his mother, Fernanda - designed for his brand Studio Zanini. In wood with leather upholstery, the object is inspired by the lightness, comfort and compactness of the furniture created in the 50s by his father, Zanine Caldas, the famous "master of wood." Another novelty of his is the “Pé” armchair (in Italian, Piede), designed for his other brand, Atelier Zanini by Zanine. Completely handcrafted, it is made with recycled wood and varnished with natural wax, and its number is limited to 40 pieces.

award-winning designer, Indio da Costa will reveal its first line of sofas: entitled “Planos”, it is part of the Indio da Costa Design Collection. With an innovative proposal, the collection is characterized by a contemporary and bold style.

Its metal structure (which seems to float thanks to large free spaces) offers a new perception of lightness, volume reduction and represents an innovation in the way of building sofas. Lined in leather, the metal sheets have visible edges and are finished with hand-woven leather laces. The seating family includes armchairs, poufs and sofas of two or three modules in symmetrical or asymmetrical versions, allowing for different layouts.

The versatile designer Leo Eyer, the Bold study, continues to focus on the path of self-production and focuses on the “Cafusa” line of lamps, a metaphor for the mixture of races that characterize Brazil, expressed through the harmonious combination of different materials. Another new production of his is the “Palafita” stool: the name of this seat is a reference to the stilts, the wooden houses positioned on the banks of rivers, present in different areas of Brazil, for example, in the Amazon region. Functional and simple, it comfortably accommodates any person thanks to the high-density foam padding, as well as being stackable.

Also participating in Rio + Design: Bolei, Marzio Fiorini, Next-Puc-Rio, Gustavo Martini, Tatiana Berenguer, Ni Romiti, Diogo Dalloz, Vinicius Braga, Nocca Atelier, Paula Mourão, A.Costa and Vanessa Robert.
