For Light + Building 2016, in Frankfurt, Enzo Catellani has created for Catellani & Smith his first collection of lamps for outdoor, in response to the trend over the years has seen the living space to move outward with terraces and gardens, extending the house.
The goal of Enzo Catellani was to create a collection of "lamps inside, transported outside": luminaires designed for outdoor but able to make the same warmth, the same emotionality of light from interior.
The protagonist of this collection is the glass.
Enzo Catellani has used for a new industrial glass collection, before it has completely cooled, it is modeled manually. As is the case for the processing of all the lamps Catellani and Smith, therefore, not only aesthetic, but also craftsmanship combined with the latest technologies for outdoor lighting.
Creating greater effect of the collection is Medousê, with a body made up of two glass cups stacked and that while it is turned off is green, to fit perfectly into the landscape, lit becomes an ethereal white.
By partnering with Architecture Sonora, then, Medusa is also available with a built-in audio speaker system: an object hifi and the characteristic handwork, which always gives uniqueness to each lamp by Catellani & Smith.
Drops of light, always in industrial glass molded manually, complete the collection. Supported by oxidized copper rods, they seem to arise magically from the external environment that surrounds them.
The Drops of Light with a breath of wind move, oscillate and can become then the fruits of a tree, a unique piece made by Enzo Catellani in 2005, whose copper trunk from the various color shades, brings us to a magical nature of the past.
