Formabilio launches - with the special contribution of Stefano Caggiano - Digital Wood,

the forty-seventh international contest dedicated to designers and furniture enthusiasts from around the world.

There is time until June 18, 2015 to send your furniture projects, home accessories and lamps.

Digital Wood, the forty-seventh international contest - aimed at designers from all over the world - launched by Formabilio, the Italian brand of furniture, lamps and furnishing accessories that supports shared and made in Italy eco-design and promotes projects by designers and aspiring designers through online competitions.

In today's transition towards a dematerialized world, wood is proving to be a key material for “linking” solid-state design to digital design. On the one hand, in fact, wood is a material as old as man; on the other hand, its "anthropological" lightness is well suited to the light taste of digital, understood not only as an implementation of technology but also as a new system of gestures that integrates digital terminals in itself (rummaging through the tablet while sitting on the sofa watching television, placing the smartphone on the first support surface upon entering the house, forgetting to access it, etc.).

In this perspective, the competition invites us to think of wood as a bridging material between digital and real, called upon to "warm up" the digital through its insertion into the behavioral dimension inscribed in the furniture. In particular, participants are invited to design accessories such as chairs, tables, bookcases, shelves, lamps, etc., which act as a daily support for the new digital sensitivity, integrating technological elements to support devices or even only by providing aesthetic feedback to the new behavioral habits that pivot on them.

Special contributor to the conception and brief of the contest was Stefano Caggiano, design critic and interpreter of the new languages of the project, who will exceptionally be part of Formabilio's technical commission for this contest. Caggiano deals in particular with how the aesthetics of objects incorporate certain cultural meanings in relation to the social and anthropological context of reference. He collaborates with the consulting firm NextAtlas as a researcher and trend curator, writes articles on the new languages of design for "Interni" and teaches at various design universities including NABA in Milan, Free University of Bolzano and ISIA in Faenza.

The designer of the winning projects identified by the jury of Formabilio will be entitled to a fee of 7% on the sale of products on Formabilio.com.
