The study of Italian architecture Tamassociati wins gold medal for SUSTAINABLE ARCHITECTURE Giancarlo Ius. The Gold Medal Giancarlo Ius, destined work of architecture more innovative and sustainable in terms of energy saving and use of renewable energy, was in fact given to Tamassociati for the design and construction of the Paediatric Centre in Port Sudan (Sudan), commissioned by the NGO Emergency.
"Our architecture is a physical place and at the same time a symbol of values, becoming in fact a 'common good". "The coexistence between the best possible health and the best ecological approach represents one of the great challenges of the future, and not only for the African continent ". "Simplicity as a synthesis between modern and traditional technologies, capable of favoring common sense, durability and measure". "Simplicity is a way to face every decision of a technological and plant engineering nature, which affects significantly the final costs of the intervention and the maintenance charges ".
In the grounds we read that the hospital "Trying to solve with good results and good architecture, the main themes of the contemporary challenges", Ie "how to make buildings with high comfort - especially in a children's hospital - with simple and inexpensive technologies," in places "the weather conditions (and social) extreme", where "the energy and water are goods precious. " The Paediatric Centre proves once more as quality, functionality, energy saving and beauty does not necessarily have to go through choices economically and technologically excessive, but find excellent answers through the criteria of simplicity and eco-simplicity.
The design and the construction of a hospital with these features is area-wide sub-Saharan Africa as a challenge and an innovation in several directions: advanced technologies alongside the recovery of traditional building techniques, and ultra low power systems are interwoven in systems natural cooling, creating thermal machines for shading and ventilation perfect, simple and effective. Italian know-how have joined local materials, while the morphology of the building has returned, in large-scale, domestic architecture typical of the area, enriching it with a big garden irrigated by waste water: in this wilderness physical and human, green living is a vision, has a great symbolic value because it is the prelude to the care that will be.
A challenge collection and masterfully played by Tamassociati, forerunner, at an international level, of the principles of ethical, social and sustainable design: "the international awards that our recent projects are obtaining - the Tamassociati affirm - are the testimony of a growing desire to start thinking about a future different, shared and shareable (a few years ago it was said 'possible'). Perhaps we are beginning to understand that rights are not a conquest - once and for all - and recent years prove it. They must be cultivated, sought after, claimed every day. In this, perhaps, lies the novelty of a renewed interest in ethical issues in which we have always felt involved: our architecture is a physical place and at the same time a symbol of these values, becoming in fact a 'common good' " .
The construction one of the few outposts health of this large area, able to provide free health care to children in the area, is a step towards the fulfillment of the right to health, beauty, respect, and the environment.
"The coexistence of the best health care possible and the best ecological approach - conclude Tamassociati - represents one of the great challenges of the future, and not only for the African continent. The African experience teaches us to imagine simplicity as a synthesis between modern and traditional technologies, capable of favoring common sense, durability and measure, in a general strategy of project reduction, without losing sight of the idea of well-being. Simplicity as a strategy has been and is a way to deal with every decision of a technological and plant nature, which has a significant impact on the final costs of the intervention and on maintenance costs. Behaviors aimed at saving, combined with good building efficiency and appropriate energy choices, have made it possible to achieve excellent performance ".
The recognition obtained by Tamassociati is a premium Italian design excellence globally and its best application ethics.
The Gold Medal Giancarlo Ius is One of the awards as part of the Prize Biennale of Architecture 'Barbara Capocchin', of an international character.
