The winners of the seventh edition of the “Changing the Face” international architecture competition have just been announced by the organizers of the competition: DuPont, PKO Bank Polski, the Union of Polish Architects and the Polish branch of the Green Building Council.

The aim of the competition was to design the renovation of the Warsaw Rotunda, one of the contemporary symbols of the city, taking into account strict guidelines, including that of designing a building with a place used for cultural activities and an urban space open to the public inside. The projects had to be designed considering the use of DuPont materials such as the DuPont ™ Corian® techno-surface, DuPont ™ Tyvek® breathable building membranes, DuPont ™ Plantex® geotextiles for landscaping, DuPont ™ Teflon paints ® and DuPont ™ SentryGlas® interlayer for laminated safety glass.

The jury unanimously agreed that the project to be built, winner of the first prize, will be the one conceived by the team of Polish architects from Krakow, Gowin-Suita. The winning project has met all the criteria of the competition, keeping faithfully the original form of the Rotunda, and at the same time, defining an architectural space and urban characterized by the highest aesthetic standards and functional use.

PKO Bank Polska expects to start negotiations with the winners for the implementation of the project in the coming weeks. "The winning project will ensure the sustainability of the original Rotunda, alongside the creation of a modern building for PKO Bank Polska and the community, " said Wlodzimierz Sobon, Strategic Program Manager of DuPont. "Using innovative solutions, such as DuPont ™ SentryGlas® and DuPont ™ Corian® will safely restore the transparency of the building, and a new-found splendor of the facade, potentially leading to the acquisition of sustainable building certifications," continued Sobon.

The Rotunda is one of the cultural landmarks of Warsaw and for this reason, PKO Bank Polska has decided to allocate part of the building to urban use or public. During public consultations held in April and May 2013, were presented more than 10.000 questionnaires filled out by the inhabitants of Warsaw, containing suggestions for the use of urban space inside the Rotunda. The results of the consultation have been reported in a relationship and have been integrated into the requirements to all participants in the contest. The competition has attracted the interest of architects worldwide. Were in fact recorded 1040 79 teams from countries and were received 214 projects. 10 instead were those selected for the second stage, the final.
