The project is the result of the renovation of an old farmhouse located in a still very rural city.
Disassembling the poor materials of the old facade it turned out that the old farmhouse was actually composed of three small houses built according to the needs of the former owner.
This was the fundamental premise for the realization of the renovation project, maintaining the structure of the original volumes and assuming their original uncovered form, unifying them through a slab perforated by a central patio that fills the entire social area with light, located on the floor. land . A garden roof finish on this center slab offers an intimate new garden to all rooms and private areas of the home.
In terms of materiality, the intention was to create a strong contrast between the two floors. To the ground floor a rougher materiality, which denounces the tectonics of the building, conveys the feeling of living inside a hollowed granite mass, in strong relationship with the external space.
And al upper floor, the geometry of the three original houses is denounced by casting their materialization as candid volumes, flooded with light. On this floor, the high right feet, wooden shutters, white and wooden floor recreate the feeling of a typical Portuguese country house.
