The Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement attributed to the poetoghese architect will be delivered to the Giardini della Biennale on 29 August during the opening ceremony of the 13th International Architecture Exhibition Alvaro Siza Vieira.

The decision was made by the Biennale board chaired by Paolo Baratta, on the proposal of the Director David Chipperfield. The motivation opens with a quote from Pessoa: “Because I have the dimension of what I see and not the dimension of my height”. "It is difficult to think of a contemporary architect who has maintained a coherent presence in the profession as much as Avaro Siza - we read later - that such a presence is maintained by an architect who lives and works at the extreme Atlantic edge of the Europe does nothing but highlight its authority and its condition ”.
“Protected by its isolated location - continues the motivation - it emanates universal wisdom. Experimenting with extreme geometric shapes he manages to create buildings of great rigor. By developing an architectural language of its own, it seems to speak to all of us. While his work exudes certainty of judgment, it is clearly enhanced by prudent reflection. While we are dazzled by the brightness of its buildings, we feel their full consistency ”.
