The FUJI restaurant project by the architect Sequeira Dias Arquitectos presents itself as an environment that wants to offer its customers a distinctive and elevated culinary experience. The aim is to create an aesthetic and contemporary atmosphere, while meeting the needs of the program requested by the client.

The concept of the restaurant is closely linked to the Japanese cuisine of the Far East that it wants to offer, therefore, the interior architecture tries to be symbiotic with the gastronomic menu and its oriental nature.

Given the limited space, the design approach focused on creating a simple and sober restaurant, characterized by the use of American oak furniture and anthracite gray walls and ceilings, which, although of a contrasting nature, speak to the 'each other.

The wooden ceiling of the dining room looks like a carved asymmetrical orthogonal grid. Through the rectangular voids, the restaurant becomes animated by multiple light-shadow effects. The orthogonal grid becomes more and more evident as one moves deeper into the darkness of the ceiling. Some rectangles are filled with straw, an empty texture of a minute and intimate scale, through which the zenithal light escapes. The use of straw in the ceiling panels, as well as its use in the bottle rack and display preceding the sushi-making counter, allows the space to be punctuated with a touch of vibrancy that contrasts with the otherwise uncluttered design.

While the abundance of wood seems to evoke the lines of the trees and dense forests that have dotted the Azores islands since the XNUMXth century, the anthracite gray shading of the walls easily transports us into the fog that often envelops the Azorean landscapes.

Entering the FUJI restaurant means immersing yourself in an imaginary landscape, where the exoticism of the Far East intertwines with that of the Azores. Where the sobriety of the architecture blends with the exuberance of the gastronomy.
