After six years of development, the study of China MAD Architects has completed "Absolute Towers" in Mississauga, Canada, affectionately nicknamed the Marylyn Monroe towers by local residents.
The Absolute Towers by MAD architects are located parallel and fully express the fluidity in the twist and natural lines with their 45.000 square meters, 56 apartments and a height of 150 and 170 m each.
Like other fast developing suburbs in North America, Mississauga is looking for a new identity. This is an opportunity to respond to the needs of an expanding city, to create a residential landmark that strives for more than just efficiency and that provides residents with an emotional connection to their hometown.
The ambition of the designers was to provide each resident with a unique experience of the city. The continuous balconies that surround the building, eliminating the vertical barriers traditionally used in high rise architecture, widen the individual angles of visibility and are shared by the community of each individual floor. At a macro level, the slope of the floors towards the sky reflects the modular rhythms of human experience, and emphasizes its movement.
Instead of the simple, functional logic of modernism, the design of the Absolute Towers by MAD architects express the complex and very varied needs of contemporary society. This building is more than just functional: it reflects its landmark status and the task of acting as a gateway beyond the city. It is something beautiful, sculptural and human.
The whole building rotates from different degrees to different levels, corresponding with the surrounding landscape. The aim is to provide a 360 degree view of each housing unit, and to put city dwellers in contact with the natural elements and awaken their appreciation of nature.
