NYC aquarium & public waterfront is the theme of the international challenge launched by arch out loud architects.

New York City has seen rapid redevelopment that has been able to enhance previously degraded places. First of all the sites that have access to the waterfront. Most firms in these areas have private economic interests, interested in public value only when there is a direct return on their profit.

If part of the waterfront is not taken into account it could be lost, with the constant return of people to the urban core, there is a need to create public and cultural infrastructures. In a city that is filled with numerous icons, parks, theaters and museums, an aquarium is one of the few types of public facilities that does not exist within the surrounding area.

On a site that runs along the East River and Eleventh Street Basin in New York City, arch out loud proposes the construction of a public aquarium and park to provide common space for the surrounding city. arch out loud offers designers to experiment with conventional interpretations of this program and investigate how it can create a relationship with its context.
