The rocking chair Eames Plastic Armchair RAR (Rocking Armchair Rod Base) is part of the famous line of chairs Vitra designed by Charls and Ray Eames. The project was born in 1950 and is the modern reinterpretation of another legendary chair, the Fiberglass Chair. Born from the collaboration with Zenith Plastics for the “Low-Cost Furniture Design” competition of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, it was the first mass-produced plastic chair.

The characteristic organically shaped seat, first in plastic reinforced with fiberglass and now in polypropylene, has been combined over time with several types of different bases, such as the RAR rocker. A rocking chair composed of four chromed steel legs resting on two painted wooden rockers with an unmistakable design. The shell, in polypropylene, with an organic shape allows a high level of comfort and gives a strong personality to modern furnishing solutions.

As for the possibilities of chromatic choice, in addition to the classic black and white, since 2009 models are available with the shell in many different colors, not subject to fading by UV rays, thanks to a special treatment. Vitra launched in 2012, with the "RAR Winter Special", a limited version of the popular rocking chair, allowing this furniture classic to appear in a whole new light: the shell is made of "basalt" dyed polypropylene and mounted on a black mesh with dark-stained maple sled.

Vitra has been producing these chairs in high quality since 1957 for millions of copies worldwide.
