The UAE Pavilion Expo 2015 opened, bringing the planning principles of the traditional desert city in Milan.
Designed by famed British architect Foster + Partners , the interior of the pavilion reflects the ancient communities of the United Arab Emirates.
Visitors are drawn to a canyon-like space with undulating walls 12 meters high and 140 meters long. Influenced by ancient planning principles, the paths through the pavilion resemble the narrow pedestrian streets and courtyards of the ancient desert city.
To convey a distinctive sense of place, the texture of the walls derives from a scan of the desert. The glass fiber reinforced concrete panels are supported by a steel frame, which can be easily disassembled and rebuilt for the eventual transfer of the pavilion.
