The London designer Andy Martin will present his new furniture project in Meet My Project during fuorisalone 2012, under the theme INSPIRATION.

Undergraduate Shelf is the reinvention or re-inspiration of classic brick construction and wooden floors stacked on top of each other into a bookcase typically found in cramped student quarters.

“When I was a student, in Sydney, in the campus housing with 3 other students we built brick shelves all over the place, they ended up forming the walls between us. In the following years they evolved with paintings and graffiti that dominated our space ”.

In the Undergraduate Shelf the bricks are now in carved and lacquered wood. The blocks are hooked together using a rubber disc which allows some flexibility for the light movements of the wood. Andy sees this as a "return to the fundamentals" to free himself from the complexity of contemporary furniture, giving the user the possibility to modify and redesign the furniture.
