Touching Tales, The Alcantara Experience is the event that Alcantara & DAMN ° presented at IMM Cologne 2016 in collaboration with four design studios, to explore the potential of Alcantara.
For this special project, focusing on tactile and contemporary, four talented independent design firms were invited to "experience" the Made in Italy trademarked material to create unusual, surprising installations, presented to the public in two different places Colony.
The material tale Formafantasma, Moritz Waldemeyer e Anton Alvarez It was staged in the charming rooms of the Kunsthaus Rhenania on the Rheinauhafen, the beautiful location overlooking the Rhine River that has distinguished itself as a true creative reservoir, while a striking installation signed by Henrik Vibskov welcomed the audience at the Fair.
The protagonists, known for combining high-tech craftsmanship, seen as sartorial attention to detail, have been working freely choosing from the endless tones or possible designs of Alcantara® to return a vision of entirely original material and its values. Not only beautiful, pleasant to the touch and highly functional thanks to its DNA technology, Alcantara® also unveiled to the authors the characteristics of ethics and accountability that nowadays are of increasing importance in the architectural world, inspiring new applications.
The Science Spooner, Installation conceived by the eclectic Danish designer Henrik Vibskov for space at the show, reminiscent of a science lab experiment: in a sort of rectangular box, enclosed by a tent in Alcantara®, Vibskov puts 15 cones hanging from the ceiling , covered in various shades of green material. Moving from top to bottom, thanks to a motorized mechanism, these reach to touch, with a pointed end, a glass container containing water, creating a singular dripping effect. The LED interior that shine through the holes on the cones give a decent brightness and bewitching.
From the Fair at Kunsthaus Rhenania, where the Italian duo Formafantasma with the project Strata It emphasizes the versatility and on the strengths of Alcantara®, coming to devise a series of simple elements that suggest different applications for the material, emphasizing the contrast with other natural elements such as marble, metal and stone. Used as a belt to hold together some heavy pieces, Alcantara® and demonstrated extraordinary strength.
It is a fine work on technology that thought by Moritz Waldemeyer for 火曜日 kayoubi. The engineer and the Anglo-German designer proposes an installation consists mainly of shades: applying an extra layer of film to a particular variant of perforated Alcantara®, Waldemeyer created a texture which combined the light, converts the material into something rich and precious.
The result is a fascinating effect, highlighted by the screen surrounding the installation and defines
one private emotional space.
Finally, the Chilean-Swedish artist Anton Alvarez for the work New Skids on the Block plays with the varied color palette of Alcantara® to design original pieces of furniture. Composed of soft sticks that have a wooden structure covered with foam and aluminum and complemented by soft Alcantara®, the elements, the human dimension, "live" seem like bodies struggling or who cling to each other.
The partnership with DAMN °, the magazine has always been independent voice of design, architecture, art and creativity in 360 ° confirms the versatility of Alcantara and always alive attention of the company to capture signals and trends of the world creative.
Andrea Boragno, President and CEO of Alcantara SpA, says: "The project with DAMN ° has materialized as a result of a series of events that have been key players in Italy and on the international stage, particularly in the United States and the Far East. After presenting the material and its values related to sustainability, uniqueness and versatility, giving proof of the infinite possible applications, we felt the desire to return specifically to design, leaning out over the Cologne international stage with a show of great impact, curated by an independent publication and authoritative voice of the world of creativity as DAMN °. For Touching Tales we chose to interpret Alcantara® to young talented artists, in the belief that dialogue with the creative avant-garde is doubly challenging: for designers, which in the material performance can find the answer to the most challenging inspirations, and our Research and Development department, always discovering new possibilities and new languages for Alcantara® ".
Explains Walter Bettens and Siegrid Demyttenaere (both Editors and Publishers of DAMN °): "When Alcantara has shared with us the desire to celebrate the uniqueness of the homonymous facing material to the international audience of IMM, with the strategic objective of hitting the heart and mind of designers, companies and influencers present in Cologne in the days of the Fair, it seemed natural to involve young creative they moved nimbly to the so-called industrial design boundaries. The four studies, chosen for the originality and the vocation to experiment, we gave only one instruction: to work on the outstanding features of Alcantara® in surprising and innovative. They were born of great creative power projects, free expression of the talent of the actors and the intrinsic values of Alcantara® ".
